Police impound assorted vehicle number plates in Kariobangi South
By Joel Masibo, December 6, 2025Police officers in the Nairobi region have successfully recovered a large cache of motor vehicle registration plates during an operation in Kariobangi South, believed to have been stolen.
This follows a search conducted on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Acting on credible information from members of the public, officers from Buruburu and Dandora Police Stations raided a residential house believed to have been used for the illegal processing and storage of vehicle identification materials.

During the operation, officers seized 34 complete registration plates, 67 incomplete (mixed front and rear) plates, 34 half-cut plates, three rolls of chassis number stickers, one roll of blue iron sheeting, two rolls of white and yellow reflective sheets, and various number plate frames, the National Police Service has revealed.

”The items are suspected to have been used in the manufacture and alteration of vehicle licence plates. The suspect connected to the premises narrowly escaped and is currently being pursued. All recovered items have been secured as exhibits pending identification and further forensic analysis,” the NPS said via an X statement on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Following the ambush, the National Police Service has commended the vigilance of the officers, further noting that the cooperation of members of the public contributed to the successful operation. The Service has also reaffirmed its commitment to combating vehicle-related crime, including the falsification of registration numbers and the trafficking of stolen motor vehicle parts.
Jukwaa la Usalama report
Meanwhile, after touring all 47 counties from April to October 2025, the Ministry of Interior, led by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, unveiled the Jukwaa la Usalama report at State House, Nairobi, before President William Ruto.
The particular report captures the security challenges prevailing in the country, the state of service delivery and the welfare problems of the police.
Following the report, President Ruto issued different directives, among them, the Construction of 900 police stations in the next two years through a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Interior and the Affordable Housing Programme.
To improve mobility, the government will procure 3,000 motor vehicles with more emphasis on electric vehicles to address inadequate fuel allocation and aid environmental protection.
