Police forced to fire in the air to disperse rowdy youth in Nyeri

Police were yesterday forced to fire in the air to disperse a group of rowdy youths in Nyeri.
Two youth groups had clashed at Giakanja in Nyeri county before the arrival of Deputy President William Ruto who was attending a church fund raising event in the Nyeri Town.
During the incident outside Giakanja Boys school, youths chanting DP’s name burnt T-shirts inscribed ‘Uhuru’s Bedroom’. Five youths were, however, arrested during the fracas.
And in what could be seen as an apparent show of his political inclination, Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu yesterday refused to address the event attended by Ruto.
The MP who is a critic of the Deputy President, was invited to speak but he declined to do so.
The legislator also refused to walk to the chopper to welcome Ruto and instead remained seated on the dais alone as the other leaders welcomed the DP.
The MP, who is a member of the Kieleweke team that is allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta, has also opposed a call for Central Kenya voters to unconditionally back Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.
