Police corner a fleeing rider, recover stolen pineapples in Murang’a crackdown

One person of interest was arrested, and pineapples believed to have been stolen were recovered following a police operation in Murang’a County as security agencies intensify efforts to curb crime targeting agricultural enterprises in the region.

In a statement by the National Police Service on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, officers from Kenol Police Station acted on information from members of the public regarding motorbikes transporting stolen pineapples in the Wempa area.

The officers responded to the tip-off and proceeded to the area, where they found a rider in possession of pineapples suspected of having been stolen.

“In line with ongoing efforts to combat crime in agricultural areas, officers from Kenol Police Station in Murang’a County acted swiftly on information received from members of the public regarding motorbikes ferrying pineapples suspected to have been stolen in the Wempa area,” NPS said.

“Responding promptly to the tip-off, the officers proceeded to the Wempa area, where they found a person of interest in possession of pineapples believed to have been stolen.”

How he was arrested

According to the police, the person of interest attempted to flee upon noticing the officers. However, he was pursued and apprehended, leading to the recovery of the produce.

NPS said the operation highlights its continued commitment to protecting farmers and agricultural businesses from criminal activities that threaten productivity and economic stability.

“Upon noticing the officers, the suspect attempted to evade arrest. However, the officers successfully apprehended him and recovered the suspected stolen produce,” NPS stated.

“This operation underscores the commitment of the National Police Service to safeguarding agricultural enterprises from criminal activities that undermine productivity and economic stability.”

Police have urged members of the public to continue working closely with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency numbers 999, 911,” NPS said.
