Police arrest 2 linked to drugs trafficking, seize Ksh630K worth of bhang
Meru police officers have arrested two young men in a major narcotics operation, seizing a large quantity of bhang valued at over Ksh 630,000.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, DCI said the arrests come as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug networks across the country. The persons of interest were caught after law enforcement acted on a tip-off that led them to a rental house in the Municipality area, Mwiteria sub-location.

“Acting on a tip-off, the officers conducted a raid on a rental house located in the Municipality area, in the Mwiteria sub-location. Upon entering the premises, they uncovered 22 kilograms of bhang and 440 rolls, all valued at approximately Sh630,000 in the streets. The operation also yielded rolling papers, a digital weighing scale, 38 black courier bags, and a National Youth Service smoke jacket, among other incriminating items,” part of the DCI’s statement reads.
The arrested persons of interest were immediately taken into custody. They are currently being processed at Meru Police Station ahead of their arraignment.

“The suspects, 23-year-old Daniel Mutuma and 21-year-old Duncan Murithi, were arrested on the spot. They were escorted, together with the recovered exhibits, to Meru Police Station, where they are undergoing processing pending arraignment,” part of the DCI’s statement reads.
Authorities emphasised that the arrests are part of a broader national crackdown on drug trafficking aimed at dismantling illicit networks and ensuring accountability.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has intensified its crackdown on narcotics trafficking, with sustained operations across the country aimed at dismantling drug networks, seizing illicit substances, and bringing all those involved to justice,” Part of the DCI’s statement reads.
