Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Peninah Malonza told Parliament on Wednesday, October 19 that she is worth Ksh300 million.

Speaking during her vetting for the Cabinet position, Malonza said she owns pieces of land worth Ksh240 million in four counties.

She also has shares in four Saccos worth Ksh30 million, livestock worth Ksh20 million and three vehicles valued at Ksh10 million.

“My financial net worth is Ksh300 M; Land in Mombasa, Kajiado, Kitui and Nairobi, Sacco shares, 3 motor vehicles and farming/ livestock keeping business,” she told Parliament.

Malonza is among 22 Cabinet nominees announced by President William Ruto last month.

Malonza defends her nomination

While defending his nomination, she assured the vetting committee that the ministry will be in safe hands and she will work to restore the glory of Kenya’s tourism sector.

“This ministry will be in safe hands. We will focus on partnering with international marketing firms to carry out joint promotion campaigns,” she stated.

At the same time, the nominee promised to partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to market Kenya abroad.

“I will be looking forward to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that we can use our missions out there, we start a tourism desk and provide targeted materials for our international markets,” she said.

Malonza also said she will work with the Ministry of Transport to reinstate chartered planes to Mombasa.

“I will also be collaborating with my counterpart in the Transport Ministry to pursue reinstating the charter planes that we used to have flying direct to Mombasa,” she added.

The nominee had vied for Kitui Woman Representative position on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the last election but lost to Irene Kasalu who was re-elected on a Wiper Party ticket.

Kasalu garnered 201,899 votes against Malonza’s 78,783.
