Pastor Dorcas Rigathi calls for prayer after deadly Gen Z protests leave 8 dead
Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has urged sustained prayers following the deadly Gen Z memorial protests that left at least eight people killed and 400 others injured across the 27 counties in Kenya where the demos took place.
In a statement on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Dorcas appealed to Kenyans to pray for a new dawn from the chaos of the just concluded demonstrations that brought Nairobi to a standstill, resulting in the closure of businesses and suspension of parliamentary business, alongside others.
“When the watchman hears things that stagger, sees visions that bewilder and things that flatter the heart, it is time to pray. When day and night that never meet appear together, the Lord is speaking,” Dorcas remarked
Pray the night away
“Watchmen and children of light in Kenya, wake up and pray without ceasing. Pray the night away and the day to appear alone. For our light must shine as noonday.”
Dorcas’ statement comes amid a general silence by her spouse, Rigathi Gachagua, after protests rocked several regions of the country during what was planned to be a Memorial Day for victims of police brutality in 2024.

While Gachagua has yet to comment on the happenings of Wednesday, June 25, 2025, his Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party condemned the government’s move to shut down TV and radio stations that defied an order to cease broadcasting the protest.
DCP condemns media gag
In a statement signed by Secretary General Hezron Obaga, the party said the move was a direct assault on the freedom of the press and tantamount to state-sponsored censorship.
“The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) strongly condemns the government’s brazen decision to shut down several media houses’ broadcast signals following today’s countrywide protests. This act is a direct assault on the constitutional right to freedom of the press and amounts to state-sponsored censorship,” the DCP statement read.

The party particularly revealed being perturbed by the conduct of security agencies, whom they castigated for blatant violation of human rights freedoms during the protests.
“Even more disturbing is the use of excessive force by security agencies, including the shooting and killing of unarmed demonstrators with live bullets. These are not just violations of human rights; they are criminal acts that must be accounted for,” the party observed.
