Orwoba vows clean, transparent campaign in Kisii Woman Rep bid

Speaking during an interview on Friday, April 3, 2026, in a local station, Orwoba criticised corruption and weak political representation, pledging reforms that will prioritise gender equity, youth empowerment, and support for persons with disabilities.
She highlighted a broader opposition agenda ahead of the 2027 elections, focusing on anti-corruption measures and institutional strengthening.
Eye on Kisii Women Rep seat
Addressing questions about her political direction, Orwoba emphasised her deep ties to Kisii County, saying her calling has always been in Kisii and that local women had encouraged her to take up the mantle of representation.
According to Orwoba, many residents feel underserved by the current leadership, particularly on issues affecting women, youth, and people with disabilities.
She said that this dissatisfaction has created an opportunity to redefine the role through stronger advocacy and visibility.
“The women of Kisii want me to go and represent them,” she said, adding that constituents believe she is “in a better situation to be able to articulate their issues and push for gender matters, youth, and disability matters.”
Underperforming regime
Senator Orwoba criticized the current output of the Women’s Representative office, citing a failure by many holders to demonstrate the role’s full potential. She clarified that the position was designed as an affirmative action tool to ensure legislative inclusivity, though she contends its original intent has been frequently overlooked.
“People often think that the seat is there for the distribution of pads and bursaries. To be honest, they also don’t understand, and that is why a majority of the office holders have really underperformed,” Orwoba said.
“Many women representatives have actually never spoken in the house,” she said, stressing the importance of “having that voice” in addressing key issues affecting marginalised groups.
