Orwoba reminds Sakaja how he disregarded UDA leaders for Raila’s backing
By Mabonga Makhanu, October 23, 2025Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has taken a swipe at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for sidelining his colleagues within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party after his growing association with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, the late Raila Odinga, appeared to yield fruit.

In a statement posted on her social media pages on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Orwoba said that the Nairobi County boss now appears politically stranded since the man he had pegged his political hopes on is gone, leaving him in the hands of the same UDA colleagues he had earlier alienated.
“I have gotten at least five requests to remind you of how you disregarded many UDA leaders because Baba became your insurance, and so you never needed any of their support as long as you had Baba and ODM,” Orwaba said.

Orwoba noted that after assuming office, Sakaja began disregarding UDA leaders because he was assured of the influence and protection of Raila Odinga.
She pointed out that many within UDA had reminded her how Sakaja distanced himself from party members, believing his closeness to Raila and ODM would secure his political future.
Orwoba also recalled her efforts to have Sakaja extend the feeding programme to Kileleshwa Primary School, where many students she supports from Kawangware study, only for him to later launch the initiative with Beatrice Elachi and credit her for the work.
“When I remember how hard I worked to get you to take the feeding programme to Kileleshwa Primary, where many students I support from Kawangware now study, alafu ukaenda ukai launch na Elachi, praising her for the work I did,” she added.

Sakaja, who on Thursday, October 23, 2025, visited the home of the late former Prime Minister in Bondo to pay his tribute, was reminded by Orwoba that members of the UDA party bear no ill will towards him but that he should reflect on his political miscalculations.
Sakaja’s visit to Raila’s home
This comes just days after the Nairobi County boss was saved from impeachment by the late Prime Minister, who intervened and mediated with the Nairobi County Assembly, which had accused him of several issues.
Raila managed to broker a truce that saw Sakaja spared from the claws of impeachment.
