By Luke Oluoch, December 26, 2025The Youth Chair for the United Opposition and political activist Ken Babu led members of his family in paying homage to the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, at his resting place in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
Babu confirmed the pilgrimage via his Facebook account, terming the occasion as both self-reflection and reverence for the man who shaped the country’s democratic steps.
Kang’o Ka jaramogi
“I had the honour of leading a delegation comprising my immediate family, my mother and brother, friends together with members of our community from Kanyawegi village, to Kango ka Jaramogi, the ancestral home of Kenya’s political doyen, Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” part of his statement read.
“This solemn visit was a moment of reflection, respect, and honouring the enduring legacy of a man whose life and leadership continue to shape Kenya’s democratic journey. We paid our respects to the Odinga family, led by the Head of the Family, Raila Odinga Jnr., my friend and compatriot.
He recounted the moment a long bond formed between her mother and Raila’s stepmother, who shared a friendship from their past acquaintances.
“My mother also shared a heartfelt moment with her longtime friend and colleague, Ms Susan Oginga, Raila’s stepmother, with whom they worked closely during the defining struggles of the late 1990s years, that forged courage, sacrifice, and conviction in the pursuit of justice and democratic space.

Babu also hailed Raila’s lasting impact on the Kenyan political landscape, asserting that his final resting place will remain a constant reminder of the legacy he left behind.
Symbolic for struggle and legacy
“Kango ka Jaramogi remains a sacred ground of resistance, vision, and generational struggle, a reminder that the fight for dignity, equity, and people-centred leadership is eternal.
“Long live the defiant spirit of Raila Odinga. Long live the legacy of courage and principled resistance,” he stated.
Babu’s visit comes months after he disclosed that plans were in place for Rigathi Gachagua to pay his respects at the historical site.
In an interview in October 2025, Babu revealed that Gachagua would visit both Kango ka Jaramogi and Opoda Farm to personally condole with the Odinga family.
