The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is set to hold its grassroots elections next week.
The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), which is mandated to oversee the party’s election processes, announced that the elections will be conducted on November 27 across all gazetted polling units in the 47 counties.
In a statement released yesterday by the party’s NECC chairperson Emily Awita, ODM said a total of thirty officials being-ten representatives of the Polling Unit Steering Committee, ten officials of the Polling Unit Women League and 10 officials of the Polling Unit Youth League will be elected.
Awita said the NECC in collaboration with the party’s legal commitee, conducted training and officially appointed the County Elections Committees (CECs) for all the 47 Counties, paving way for the polls.
The elections will be held after a previous postponement due to widespread flooding in most parts of the country in April this year. NECC rescheduled the awaited grassroots elections following an initial postponement.
Voting will take place from 10 am on the designated day.
“Party members are requested to avail themselves in their respective polling units/centers on Monday 25 November 2024 at 10 am for the purpose of electing Presiding Officer, who will oversee the elections scheduled for 27 November 2021,” said Awita.
She stated that members eligible to vote and vie for positions will be subjected to electronic verification at their respective polling units/centres.
“In order to facilitate the preparation of the voter register, the ongoing registration of members will temporarily be suspended on Wednesday 20 November 2024. Party supporters and members are encouraged to use the remaining days to register and verify their membership,” she said.
