Ong’era out of governor race, to defend seat
Kisii County Woman Rep Janet Ong’era has bowed out of the race for the governorship and opted to defend her seat in the August 9 polls.
She said it was difficult for her to compete with more than 10 male rivals in the race, leaving Racheal Otundo as the only woman in the contest.
“You sent me to vie for the seat but I found about 10 strong men who pushed me aside. I told them only one person will be governor and we do not want violence,” Ong’era said while addressing her supporters at Nyangweta Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church at Chitago Borabu, South Mugirango constituency in Kisii county on Saturday.
The Woman Rep will face it off with Doris Nyaboke alias Donya, Julie Nyanchama, Fontina Ng’are, Linet Mong’are, Brigit Ombato, Dorothy Mamwacha, Esther Nyamwamu, Everline Ogendo, Doreen Bwari, Getrude Mogoi, Gladys Aunga, Maureen Obino, Risper Ndege, Rebecca Akemo and Lucy Machuki.
Her exit from the governor’s race leaves the field with Omingo Magara, Manson Oyongo, Bishop Josiah Onyancha, Otundo, Charles Matoke, Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, Senator Sam Ongeri, Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu, Chris Obure, and Simba Arati.
Arati, Obure and Ong’era hail from Bobasi constituency and critics privy to the county’s politics aver her move is to position herself to be appointed to a position if she loses and Raila forms government.
