The recently cobbled political alliance bringing together Amani National Congress (ANC), Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), Kanu and Ford Kenya parties yesterday hinted at bringing on board other political entities ahead of the 2022 General Election.

At a press conference yesterday, the leaders of the four parties led by Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula said their agenda is to unite Kenyans and give them hope.

They said the alliance was open to other like-minded groups adding that talks were underway to rope in other parties.

The quartet told a press conference at Nairobi’s Serena Hotel that the agenda of the “One Kenya Alliance” was to unify and hope among Kenyans especially during the current hard economic times.

“Today we mark the beginning of a journey with a clear purpose to unite this country through a transformative agenda that seeks to create equal opportunities for all Kenyans,” stated a statement read by Wetangula.

Said they: “This alliance is a breath of fresh air from the toxic and divisive politics this country has witnessed in the past.”

Mudavadi on his part said their victories in the recent by-elections in various parts of the country was a clear indication that the country is keen on a new transformational agenda that not only unites the country but is also all inclusive.

“Going into the future, we can through this alliance face the issues before us together as a nation,” he said, adding: “We are here to tell Kenyans that if you thought there was no hope, we are ready to offer the solution.”

Mudavadi hit out at their Nasa coalition partner ODM for what he termed as using its strength to marshal others as demonstrated in the removal from the Senate leadership of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.

New beginning

“The ODM has formed a tendency of blackmailing Kenyans. Why punish Malalah for expressing his stand during the Matungu by-election,?” posed Mudavadi.

Kalonzo also waded into the Malalah ouster issue, saying the Nasa coalition remained legally binding and therefore one partner could not appear to be owning it.

“Malala has been punished for being straight and steadfast. We want such leaders,” said Kalonzo.

The leaders, however, did not say what action they will be taking in response to the Malala ouster as the Deputy Minority Leader.

Wetangula said the new alliance was determined and focused terming it as the “new kid on the block.”

“This is the future of this country, the alliance brings together like-minded leaders, doors are open for others to join in,” Wetangula said.

Gideon on his part said that to set the ball rolling, the alliance would be fielding a single candidate in the emerging by elections as a show of unity ahead of the 2022 elections.

“The reciprocations that we are going to show Jubilee Party in the Juja and Bonchari by-elections is in return for what they have done to us, we have candidates in the various forthcoming elections but we have all agreed to pull them out of the race to give the Jubilee Party a head start,” Gideon said.

The group said it would soon hit the ground running after the measures announced to curb coronavirus infections are eased by the government.

The leaders bragged that the just concluded by-elections in various parts of the country is a clear indication of what is to come during the next  general elections.

While Wiper won the Machakos senatorial seat, ANC and Ford Kenya retained their seats in Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies respectively.

“Today we mark the beginning of a journey to unite all Kenyans and it is clear that the county is keen on a new transformational agenda that not only unites Kenyans but also creates greater inclusivity,” Wetangula said.

In attendance also were Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, among others.

The leaders vowed to support the BBI campaign and lobby Kenyans to fully support to unite the country and ensure that all citizens benefit from the dividends of devolution.

They will traverse the entire country and reach out to Kenyans with the aim of rolling out their vision for a united and secure nation where every Kenyan has an equal opportunity to prosper.
