Kenya international forward Michael Olunga scored seven times to help his side Kashiwa Reysol regain top-flight status in the Japanese League next season.

It was an immediate return for Reysol who were relegated to the lower division last season. In what was the final match in the Japanese second division league, Reysol were 13-1 winners over Kyato Sanga, a match that saw the victors end the season with 84 points five ahead of second-placed Yokohama.

For the lanky player who scored against Egypt and played a crucial role against Togo with 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers matches ending 1-1, last week, it was a perfect way to audition, and impressively so he did, to would-be potential suitors, as questions continue to linger where he will be playing next season.

The former Gor Mahia forward, who had netted a treble by the end of the opening breather, finished the season second on the scoring chart with 26 goals.

Only Leonardo Nascimento of Niigata with 28 had a better return. The goodies coming in the 6th, 23rd and 33rd minutes in a match his side took a 5-0 half time lead.

There were four more goals to follow after the interval. The goals came in the 57th, 65th, 67th and the icing on the cake a stoppage-time strike for Reysol’s biggest win in J2 League this season.

The former Girona FC man was named J2 League August player of the month. It was during that month that he scored his first-ever hat-trick in Japan coming again Renofa Yamaguchi.
