President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially appointed Justice Martha Karambu Koome as Chief Justice of Kenya.

This has been confirmed by a gazette notice issued on Wednesday May 19.

It also comes after the Parliament through the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee approved her nomination as Chief Justice.

“This house approves the nomination of Koome for appointment for the CJ position,”  the team said.

Members of the National Assembly were called for a sitting by Speaker Justin Muturi in a Gazette notice on Monday.

They unanimously on Wednesday, May 19, voted to approve the report of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee that recommended her approval to succeed retired CJ David Maraga.

Martha Koome had been nominated by the JSC after intense live interviews chaired by Prof.Olive Mugenda.

Mugenda announced that the commission had unanimously agreed to nominate Justice Martha Koome for the CJ post.
