‘ODM will support Ruto for second term’ – Senator Ojienda
Kisumu County Senator Tom Ojienda has claimed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will support President Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
Then, Ruto is expected to defend his seat, and eyes will be on ODM’s leader, Raila Odinga, to see who he will back or whether he will be on the ballot again.
Currently, Ruto is involved with ODM in the formation of the broad-based government, and the alliance between the opposition and the ruling party has led to some claiming they might form an alliance in the next election.
According to Ojienda, this is a possibility.
‘ODM will support President Ruto for a second term, and I will tell you this: Senator Sifuna will be advised by the party leadership.
“I am sure that on February 28, this year, Raila Odinga will become the CEO of the African Union Commission, and he will move to Addis Ababa, and I will remain here with Senator Sifuna, and he will be advised that the way we go in 2027 is to support William Ruto,” Ojienda said in a TV talk show on Thursday, January 9, 2025, where Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was also on the panel.
DP’s post
Ojienda also claimed that ODM could be rewarded with the position of the Deputy President.
“ODM will be a major player. I think the coalition agreement may include a possibility of having a Deputy President from ODM. Then we will have other positions shared between ODM and UDA.
“Kithure Kindiki will be squarely in government, and I think that negotiation will happen at that point in time. The government is big, and you can have an arrangement,” he added.
Insisting on a possibility that ODM and UDA will join hands, Ojienda further claimed that Kalonzo Musyoka could be part of that arrangement.
“2027 is a different ball game; ODM and UDA will form a coalition, and they will agree on the structure. The structure will include a Prime Cabinet Secretary of course, and the framework will ensure there is inclusivity.
“But there will be one possibility that when the Wiper Party is in a state that it is in where it is seeking out partners, the possibility that it could come into government is real. Do not be surprised that in a few months, Kalonzo joins the government.
“That I can assure you,” he concluded.
