ODM waives party membership fee following Raila’s intervention

By , June 30, 2021

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has waived the Ksh100 membership fee that is payable upon application for ordinary membership.

In a notice issued by the ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the move follows an intervention by the party leader Raila Odinga.

Sifuna says the ODM leader heeded petitions filed by many seeking the membership fee lifted due to the prevailing tough economic condition occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The waiver window is expected to last for three months.

“In light of this, the party leader Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has directed my office to waive the membership fee for anyone wishing to join our party in the next 3 months beginning July 1, 2021,” Sifuna said.

The ODM party has now urged its supporter to exploit the three-month window by registering in large numbers.

Sifuna says those who would not register to be party members will not be eligible to participate in the party’s grassroots elections and nomination exercise.

“We urge our supporters to use this three-month window to enlist as members of the party to be eligible to participate in the party’s grassroots elections and nomination exercise,” Sifuna noted.

He also acknowledged that the party membership has grown, thanks to the continuous membership recruitment exercise.

Sifuna also exuded confidence that the waiver will boost the party membership and make the ODM party the most popular political party in the country
