ODM pays glowing tribute to MP Nyikal’s father

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has joined leaders in mourning the death of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father of Seme Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. James Wambura Nyikal.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the party expressed condolences to the bereaved family and described the late Mzee as a respected elder whose legacy remains a blessing.

“We commiserate with the family of James Wambura Nyikal (MP-Seme) on the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka. Mzee was a respected elder whose life was well lived and whose memory will remain a blessing,” the statement read.

The party added: “As a party, we pray to God to grant them peace, strength and fortitude to bear the pain of this heavy loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The ODM message adds to a growing list of condolences from political leaders and institutions following the announcement of Mzee Nyikal Okaka’s death on April 11, 2026.

Early tributes

Seme MP Dr. James Wambura Nyikal first announced the passing of his father through a Facebook post, stating: “My Father has gone to be with the lord. A life well celebrated.”

The family has since requested privacy as they mourn and prepare funeral arrangements, with further details on the cause of death yet to be disclosed.

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo also expressed condolences, describing Mzee Nyikal as a respected elder whose life was well lived.

He extended support to the family and prayed for strength and peace during the period of mourning.

Leaders’ messages

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o described the late Mzee as a committed community elder who supported education and grassroots development. He noted that his influence was reflected in the public service values carried by his son.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also sent his condolences, extending sympathy to the Nyikal family and the people of Seme. He described the loss as deeply felt within the parliamentary fraternity and the wider community.

Mzee Nyikal Okaka is being remembered as a family patriarch whose legacy influenced public service and community development in Seme Constituency. Nyikal, who has served as Seme MP since 2013 under ODM, has also held senior positions in government, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Social Development, and currently sits on parliamentary committees on health and education.

Tributes continue to pour in from leaders and residents across the political divide as the family prepares for burial arrangements.
