The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has revealed plans to recall six of its Members of Parliament (MPs) who supported the Finance Bill 2024.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the Raila Odinga-led party noted that the move by the MPs defied the party's stance on the contentious bill which was withdrawn last week.

The party added that the MPs; Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Memusi Kanchory (Kajiado Central), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), and Caroli Omondi (Suba South) violated the sacred oath and wishes of the electorate.

"That the ODM Party shall initiate and lead recall processes in the following constituencies in light of the current office holders repeated violation of their sacred oath and the wishes of the electorate. Gem, Bondo, Navakholo, Kajiado Central, Ikolomani and Suba South," the statement reads in parts.

Additionally, the party took a swipe at President William Ruto's governance stating that he had misplaced the country's priorities thus causing unrest witnessed in the country.

The party underscored that the unfortunate outcome of events during the Tuesday, June 25, 2024, anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests amounted to a vote of no confidence in the Kenya Kwanza regime.

"That in our view, what happened on the 25th of June 2024 amounted to a vote of no confidence in the regime. It is clear this fact is totally lost on Ruto. It is reflected in his petulant proposals on how we manage our economy following the rejection of his tax bill," the party said.

ODM also criticised the president's remarks on slashing budgets for the Judiciary and County Governments stressing that the government should focus on cutting wastage, and go after corrupt officials within its administration.

"It is reflected in his petulant proposals on how we manage our economy following the rejection of his tax bill. Instead of focusing on cutting wastage, opulence and corruption in his regime, he is hitting back with threats to cut funding for the judiciary and the County Governments," ODM added.
