Migori governor Ayacko expresses sadness after Obado conviction
By Sharon Atieno, July 23, 2026Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko has broken his silence following the conviction of his predecessor, former governor Okoth Obado, over the murder of Sharon Otieno.
In a message of reflection shared on his Facebook account on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Ayacko expressed sadness over the conviction of Obado and his co-accused, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.
“I have learnt with deep sadness of the conviction of my predecessor, the former Governor of Migori County, H.E. Okoth Obado, alongside his co-accused, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, in connection with the tragic murder of Sharon Otieno,” Ayacko said.
The governor described the development as a painful moment for the families affected by the case, particularly Sharon’s family, which has lived with the loss for years.
Ayacko sends message to Sharon’s family
Ayacko said Sharon’s death had shocked the country and extended his thoughts and prayers to her family.
“This is a painful moment for all of us, especially for the family of Sharon, whose life was cut short under circumstances that shocked our nation,” he said.
The governor prayed for strength and comfort for Sharon’s family as they continue to deal with the loss of their daughter.
“May God grant Sharon’s family strength, comfort and peace as they continue to live with the pain of her loss,” Ayacko said.
Sharon Otieno was murdered in 2018 in a case that attracted national attention and led to a lengthy court process.
Governor prays for accused families
While acknowledging the significance of the conviction, Ayacko also extended his message to the families of Obado, Oyamo and Obiero.
He said the families of the accused must now confront the consequences of the judgment.
“It is also a deeply difficult time for the families of the accused, who must now confront the weight of this judgment and its consequences,” he said.
Ayacko prayed for strength and courage for the families of the three men convicted in connection with the murder.
“I also pray for the families of H.E. Governor Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, that God may give them strength, grace and courage during this difficult period,” he added.
Ayacko calls for peace for affected families
The conviction marks a major development in a case that has remained in the public spotlight since Sharon’s murder.
Ayacko concluded his message by praying for all those affected by the tragedy.
“May God comfort all those affected and grant them peace,” he said.
