Despite still being entrenched at the lower reaches of the Kenyan Premier League, Nzoia Sugar and Vihiga Bullets can dare dream of avoiding relegation if their latest performance is any guide.

For instance, Nzoia who are placed in the 16th position with eighteen points from 20 outings has transformed into a battle-hardened nature, beating much experienced teams and drawing with others which lends credence to their efforts to evade the big chop.

Nzoia, who has yet to lose in their last five matches, made a strong statement of intent at the weekend when they vanquished Mathare United 3-0 at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma to keep their dreams alive of dining with the big boys again next season.

Those on target for Nzoia were two-goal hero Boniface Munyendo and Kevin Juma as the team condemned Mathare to the bottom of the chart that has for a lengthy time been occupied by Vihiga Bullets.

For newly-promoted Bullets, they did themselves a big favour in as far as remaining in the top flight league is concerned after pelting FC Talanta 2-1 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega in a result which saw the latter swap positionS with Mathare in the standing.

The weekend success by Vihiga was least surprising anyway having punched above their weight in their last fixture-against AFC Leopards on February 27- when they held the big cats to a barren draw.

Following the win, Bullets catapulted to the 17th position in the chart with 12 points ahead of Mathare who are gracing the basement with two points less.

At Nyayo National Stadium, AFC Leopards’ tale of blowing hot and cold continued after being held 2-2 by Bandari.

However, it suffice to say that Bandari should squarely blame themselves for failure to win the match after allowing Leopards to come from behind twice to have a share of the spoils.

Bnadri had scored through international midfielder Abdallah Hassan and Johanna Mwita before allowing Leopards to turn the game on its head, striking through Marvin Omondi and Maxwell Otieno for the game to end squarely.

Like Leopards, Bandari are still in a dazed state with the management indicating that it’s not happy with the team’s latest performance when it sacked Head Coach Andre Casa Mbungo and replaced him with Anthony KImani on an interim capacity.

In contrast, Gor Mahia’s splendid run continued, thanks to a 2-1 win over Ulinzi Stars, and for a team that has now gone five matches without losing, and this is a sign that the team is intent on recapturing the league title which it lost to Tusker last season.
