Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga yesterday  urged residents to strictly observe Covid-19 prevention protocols owing to the sharp rise in the number of cases in the county.

Ministry of Health reports indicate that 83 people who have tested positive of the Omicron variant are admitted in various health facilities, with 26 of them on supplemental oxygen.

Public places

Kahiga (pictured) said he was alarmed by the rising cases citing the county positivity rate which ranges between 25 and 50 per cent for a period of three weeks.

He told residents to get vaccinated, saying majority of those who are admitted in hospitals had not received the jab.

“We have set up 129 vaccination centres around the county and all of them are in public places such as markets.

Take advantage of them so that you can protect yourself and those near you,” he said.

He said his administration will enforce vaccination requirements by ensuring that those working in hotels, bars and churches are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Governor has said the Othaya Level Four hospital will serve as Covid-19 treatment centre due to its proximity to oxygen processing plant that was set up in Mukurweini Level Four hospital.
