Nyeri deputy governor salary case fails to kick off
A case in which Nyeri County Deputy Governor Dr Caroline Karugu has sued Governor Mutahi Kahiga and County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio for withholding her salary and benefits failed to take off yesterday.
Instead, it was postponed to a later date as the judges are currently on vacation.
Karugu has sued the duo claiming she has not received her pay since the governor has unfairly blocked her from receiving her dues through the county secretary’s office.
Through her lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, Karugu claims she was shocked and dismayed that Gachicio, acting at the behest and directions of her boss, totally failed to allocate any fuel allowance to her office since June 2019.
She contends that the order is drastic, as it bars and shuts her from living with dignity as a human being and meeting her basic day-to-day needs.
Karugu also contends that she has not received her phone and entertainment allowance since 2018. She claims to have been deliberately sidelined while she remained the Deputy Governor which violated the principle of good governance.
Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Nderi Nduma on September 8, 2021 certified the matter urgent and directed the application to be served to the parties and be mentioned on the September 16.
