Nyamira residents urged to ignore Azimio picketing call

By and , July 12, 2023

Three MPs from Nyamira county have asked residents to keep off todays demonstrations called by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Samwel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and Woman Rep Jerusa Momanyi said the demonstrations had nothing to do with the high cost of living.

They noted that last Friday, three people died in Kisii town during demonstrations.

“We are asking the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome to immediately arrest Raila over the deaths and destruction of property during protests,” Nyamoko said.

Arama termed the demonstrations as unrealistic because the implementation of the Finance Act had already been stopped by the High Court.

Separately, Abagusii Culture and Development Council has condemned protests in Kisii town last Friday.
Chairman James Araka said protesters looted and destroyed property and disrupted business.
