Nyamira county exceeds set salaries budget
By Evans.Nyakundi, July 4, 2023The County Government of Nyamira will be spending more than half of its total budgetary allocations to pay salaries and run offices in this year’s financial expenditure. Of the Sh7.33 billion budget estimates for the 2023/24 Financial year, the County will be spending Sh4.9 billion to pay its workers and as well expenses of running its offices.
The County Assembly has raised a red flag over the expenditure on salaries which it says stands at 42 per cent of the total county budget, a figure that is way far above the Controller of Budget’s 35 per cent ceiling.
However, Governor Amos Nyaribo says the current wage bill is a reduction from previous expenses that were capped at 50 per cent of the total budget. “We have improved a great deal in bringing down the wage bill that had gone abnormally high. The county has paid a total of Sh3.4 billion to workers.
