Members of the Nyamira County Assembly are spoiling for war with Governor Amos Nyaribo after they impeached his Finance Executive Emily Ongaga.
Ongaga was impeached last week after all the MCAs who were present in the House voted to have her relieved of her roles, citing 16 grounds of incompetence. The motion was presented before the House by Magombo Ward Representative Minda Riechi who said the Executive committee member was short of numerous qualities that were necessary for the officer holder.
“The County Executive Committee member has revealed her incompetence by failure to effectively execute the Nyamira County budget whose development expenditure stands at less than ten percent by the third quarter of the budget cycle leading to delayed development,” Minda said while prosecuting the motion before the Assembly.
Voted unanimously
The motion was seconded by Bogichora Ward Rep George Abuga who said the devolved unit had received nil development since inauguration of Nyaribo’s government.
The representatives voted unanimously to have the executive removed from office, terming the move a relief for the residents.
Among the grounds that they cited for the impeachment included errors in the financial statements that were served to the House, unsupported procurement of goods and services, lack of policies in key departments under her office, unsupported pending bills and providing misleading information to Controller of Budget on payment of suppliers.
Other reasons included abuse of office, appointment of an illegitimate accounting officer to the County Public Service Board, discrimination and skewed payment of salary arrears.
