NTSA announces five-hour system downtime for scheduled maintenance
By Faith Lagat, July 24, 2026The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a scheduled five-hour system maintenance that will temporarily interrupt access to its digital services.
In a notice shared on its official X account on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Authority said the maintenance will run from 7:00 pm to midnight as part of routine efforts to enhance system performance.
“This is to inform all our stakeholders that the NTSA system will have scheduled preventive maintenance on Friday 24th July 2026 (07.00 pm to 12 am). We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we offer services to you,” the Authority said.
The planned maintenance is expected to affect several online services provided through NTSA platforms and the eCitizen portal during the five-hour period.
Online services to be temporarily unavailable
During the scheduled maintenance, users will be unable to access a range of digital services, including vehicle registration, driving licence applications and renewals, PSV licensing, inspection bookings and other transactions processed through the Authority’s online systems.
Motorists, transport operators, driving schools, vehicle dealers and members of the public have been advised to complete any urgent transactions before the maintenance begins or wait until services resume after midnight.
NTSA said the temporary interruption is part of routine preventive maintenance aimed at improving the reliability, stability and efficiency of its digital infrastructure.
The Authority did not indicate any changes to its physical operations, with enforcement activities and services that do not rely on the affected systems expected to continue as scheduled.
The notice comes as NTSA continues to expand digital service delivery, with most transport-related transactions now processed online through integrated government platforms.
Safety campaign continues during school holidays
The maintenance announcement comes a day after NTSA intensified its Operation Watoto Wafike Salama campaign ahead of the August school holidays.
In a separate advisory issued on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the Authority urged parents, guardians, school transport operators and all road users to prioritise children’s safety during the holiday travel period.
“As schools across the country prepare for the August holidays, the Authority reminds all road users, parents, guardians, school bus operators, and transporters of the critical need to prioritise the safety of our children,” NTSA said.
“Extra caution and responsibility from everyone are essential since every child deserves to reach home safely.”
Working alongside the National Police Service, County Transport and Safety Committees and other stakeholders, NTSA said it has stepped up multi-agency patrols and inspections on major highways, urban centres and key travel routes.
Officers are conducting spot checks on school transport vehicles to ensure compliance with road safety requirements, including valid inspection certificates, functional speed limiters, serviceable tyres, brakes, lights and seat belts.
Public urged to observe road safety measures
The Authority said enforcement officers will also monitor speeding, overloading, drunk driving, driver fatigue and other traffic offences during the school holiday period.
Drivers transporting learners are required to possess valid driving licences, PSV badges, road service licences and other mandatory documents before being allowed to operate.
NTSA has encouraged members of the public to report dangerous driving and other unsafe practices through its official customer service channels, police emergency lines and county transport safety offices.
While online services will be temporarily unavailable during the scheduled maintenance, the Authority said its road safety operations will continue without interruption.
NTSA has urged all road users to exercise caution and work together to ensure learners travel safely during the August school holidays as enforcement officers remain on the roads across the country.
