Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
State of the Nation Address
President William Ruto is scheduled to deliver his third State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Ruto’s State of the Nation Address is in accordance with Article 132 (1) of the Constitution which provides for the President to address a special sitting of Parliament once every year and may address Parliament at any other time.
Article 132 (1) b and c further dictates that “Once every year, the President is expected to report, in an address to the nation, on all the measures taken and the progress achieved in the realization of the national values, referred to in Article 10 and submit a report for debate to the National Assembly on the progress made in fulfilling the international obligations of the Republic.”
Ruto is also expected to submit a report for debate to the National Assembly on the progress made in fulfilling the international obligations of the country.
The head of state is further expected to address measures taken to achieve national security and national values and highlight his administration’s achievements, such as the rollout and uptake of the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which replaced the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“I wish to notify all Members that a joint sitting of the two Houses shall take place in the National Assembly on Thursday, 21st November 2024,” said Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula informed the members of parliament.
Moderate rainfall
Moderate rainfall is expected in some parts of the country starting from Nairobi and other satellite towns.
In a notice, the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) predicted that rainfall would begin at 9:00 am on Thursday, disrupting several activities including commuting and other businesses.
However, Kenya Met’s notice is expected to help residents to plan their day in advance.
Other areas including Marsabit and Turkana are expected to receive winds during the day.
“Light to moderate rainfall is expected across several parts of the country. Strong easterly winds (over 25 knots/12.5m/s) are likely in Turkana and Marsabit counties,” the weatherman’s statement read in part.

Job recruitment drive
Makueni County residents will have an opportunity to try their luck when Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua launches the nationwide job recruitment program aimed at creating overseas employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled Kenyans.
In a poster, Mutua urged the residents to show up armed with relevant documents and apply for the jobs.

Reactions on Gachagua being trailed
Kenyans and other political leaders are expected to express their reactions to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claim that he was trailed by unknown people.
In a statement on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Gachagua exposed a car which he indicated had been following him everywhere.
He however pleaded with whoever was responsible to leave him alone.
Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri.
