Hello! Here’s what you need to know in order to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
1. PS Raymond Omollo in Bungoma
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo is on Wednesday set to lead a high-level delegation on an assessment tour of the Lwakhakha Ports of entry and exits in Bungoma County.
The PS is expected to address concerns regarding alleged surge in smuggling activities in the Western region.
About three years ago, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was forced to transfer officers attached to border posts in Lwakhakha, Malaba and Busia over the vice.
Those affected included officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Department of Immigration Services, Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs), National Police Service and the Ministry of Health.
2. Registrar of Political Parties to unveil Post-Election Evaluation report
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) is set to launch a Post-Election Evaluation report today.
The registrar formulated the report through a stakeholder consultative process as provided for in the Political Parties Act, 2011 and guided by the ORPP’s 2022 General Election Action Plan.
According to ORPP, the report details the office activities undertaken in the Regulation of Political Parties and their participation in elections as underpinned in the 2020-24 Strategic Plan.
3. CS Kithure Kindiki to appear before education committee
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is expected to appear before the National Assembly’s education committee to respond to questions regarding security for Teachers in Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) and other parts of the country that are currently experiencing insecurity.
The meeting will be held at Continental House in Nairobi.
4. Consortium of bomb blast victims press conference
The Consortium of the August 1998 Victims Association is set to address the media at the Bomb Blast Memorial Park.
The presser is part of the association’s push for compensation for the bomb blast victims ahead of the 25th anniversary on August 7, 2023.
5. Launch of Kenyan banking sector total tax contribution
Audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited, widely known as PwC, and Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) are set to launch the Kenya Banking Sector Total Tax Contribution study for the period ended 31 December 2022.
The event will be held at Radisson Blue Hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
