Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Looming cabinet reshuffle?

President William Ruto hinted at major reorganisation after chairing a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Ruto said the government must focus on charting a new future for the country, pointing out that significant changes must be made to align with that new future.

The looming shake-up in government comes in the wake of calls for the president to reshuffle his cabinet and effect changes to other arms of government.

The expected overhaul of Ruto's cabinet is expected to dominate talks today.

Ruto's X Space chat with youth

In further ceding to the demands of the protesting youth, President Ruto set a time to interact with the youth on X Space today.

The youth are set to present their grievances to the President using the platform amid calls by some quarters that the youth should be in charge of the planned interaction.

In a statement on Thursday, July 4, 2024, the State House confirmed that all Cabinet Secretaries were advised to join the planned meeting to listen to the demands and aspirations of the youth.

DCI crackdown

Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have intensified their search for suspected criminals who took part in looting vandalism and arson during the recent protests.

On Thursday, sleuths raided a rented apartment in Nanyuki where they recovered refrigerators, bicycles, washing machines and other assorted items believed to have been looted from supermarkets.

Similarly, DCI says they are gathering CCTV footage from businesses in Nairobi and other parts of the country to trace and find suspects involved in looting and vandalism.

The hunt for criminals who caused havoc during the protests is expected to continue today as well.
