Finance Bill 2024

Discussions around the Finance Bill are still expected to dominate the airwaves as public outrage over the bill passing for the second reading intensifies.

The committee's report received support from 204 Members of Parliament, even though the public expressed their strong opposition through demonstrations in major towns.

A total of 115 MPs, primarily from the opposition, voted against the proposed tax collection law. This brings the total number of MPs who participated in the vote to 319 out of 349 members in the house.

At the upcoming third reading, amendments to the bill will be proposed, and each clause will be voted on by the entire House. Following this, the House will hold a final vote to either approve or reject the bill.
