Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Correctional services meeting
The State Department for Correctional Services will hold a Stakeholders Roundtable at the Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru today.
The meeting themed ‘Strengthening Partnership and Collaborations in Corrections Management for Effective Community Safety’ will be chaired by the Principal Secretary (PS) for correctional services, Salome Beacco.
The meeting will commence at noon.
In courts
The Makadara Law Courts will today issue a ruling on a fraud case involving two suspects.
The two, Jackson Githaka and John Faustin Kinyua are being charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Ksh12.1 million in a complaint made by two former senior managers at Kenya Reinsurance Corporation.
Sammy Kipng’etich and his accomplices are today expected to present themselves at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
In a statement shared by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the suspects are being accused of irregular purchase of land valued at Ksh283.2 million for cemetery use by the City Council of Nairobi.
Elsewhere, former Governor of Samburu Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal and 13 others are expected to present themselves at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to answer to corruption charges.
According to EACC, the governor alongside the others is charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, abuse of office and conflict of interest.
“Allegations relate to the unlawful payment of Ksh84.8 million for fuel supplied to the county government of Samburu by Oryx Service Station, an enterprise that belonged to Mr Lenolkulal,” the statement by EACC read in parts.
Mudavadi’s tour
Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi will be completing his third-day tour of the United States (US).
Mudavadi, accompanied by his wife among other state officials, landed in Washington DC, US on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, for his tour.
He engaged senior officials in discussion on the Kenya-United States Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership, specifically focusing on enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
EAC meeting
The three-day consultative meeting held by Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) will conclude today.
The meeting led by Kanini Kega, who represents Kenya at the EALA was held at the Namanga One-Stop-Border Point (OSBP).
The purpose of the meeting was to address trade disputes between Kenya and Tanzania.
The 11-member special committee engaged with traders, the cross-border business community and government officials to assess the current and emerging challenges affecting business at this bustling border point.
