Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Blackout
Four counties are today expected to experience power interruptions in a move meant to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network.
According to a notice shared on Wednesday, April 11, 2024, the power interruption will affect Trans Nzoia, Laikipia, Tharaka Nithi and Kiambu Counties.
“Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as here under: (It is necessary to interrupt supply periodically to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network; to connect new customers or to replace power lines during construction, etc.),” Kenya Power wrote.
In Trans Nzoia, the blackout will affect Chorlim KWS, Kitum, Kaitet Coffee, Moss Farm, Cheptandan Dispensary, Tulwop, Kesis, and Kokwo areas from 9 am to 5 pm.
Laikipia areas that will be affected include; Whole of Ibis Farm, Sirimon Mkt & Pri, KWS, GAW & adjacent customers from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
The blackout in Tharaka Nithi will affect areas such as Komorock Hosp, Kathwana Mkt, Kathwana GVN Offices, Total Petrol Stn, Ntumbara & adjacent customers from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Parts of Kiambu that will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 am include; Mungetho, Gachororo Juja, Kuraiha Est, Bravers, Kiaora Est, Mtaro Est, Kariki Est, Nchengo Coffee Farm, Azania Farm, Kijito Est, Bob Harries, Kirai Mkt, Mashule Est, Karakuta Est, Mutuma Est, Allan Dashi, Gachibi Coffee Est, Diana Farm, Eagands Est, Makwa Est, Oriti Est, Kihenia Est, Mangu Shopping Centre, Maryhill Girls, St. Francis Girls Sch, Karibaribi, Mwea Police Gatukuyu, Kairi, Kigio, Mirimaini, Kiaora, Mangu Rd & adjacent customers.
Agriculture committee
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mithika Linturi is expected to chair the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries at the Senate Chamber.
The purpose of the meeting scheduled to start at 10 am is to deliberate the alleged distribution of fake fertilizer in various parts of the country.
Others expected to attend include; Trade, Investments and Industry CS Rebecca Miano, National Cereals and Produce Board, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya National Trading Company, Silica Booster Innovate Manufacturers Limited, KEL Chemicals Limited and Mavuno.
Infotrak release
Infotrak is today expected to release the latest findings of various issues including the direction of the country, key issues of concern and overall performance rating of key governance institutions.
The release of the data will be conducted at their office situated at 7 Jacaranda Avenue in Lavington, Nairobi from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.
Conference of Catholic bishops
The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) will hold a press conference at the Russel House in Karen, Nairobi today.
The bishops will speak on several issues affecting the country and announce the new office bearers from 10.30 am.
