Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Blackout in 9 counties

Today’s scheduled blackout is expected to affect nine counties.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, Kenya Power said the interruption will affect counties such as Nairobi, Machakos, Migori, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga Kiambu, Busia and Bomet.

The utility company said the scheduled interruptions are part of routine maintenance.

In Nairobi, the blackout will affect South C area including Kongoni Pri Sch, Nairobi South Hosp, Razzana Hotel, Kaisungura Rd, Cid South C, Muhoho Ave, Khalsa Schools, Mow Sports Club, Bellevue, Popo Rd, Kenya Red Cross, Kebs, Toyota Kenya, KNEC South C, Kenya Re Est, KPA Flats, Bandari Apts, Next Gen Mall, Eka Hotel, Next Gen Park, Dafam Hotel, College of Insurance, Amboseli Est, Highview Est, Real Est, Bypass, Ole Sereni Hotel & adjacent customers.

The mentioned areas will go without electricity from 9 am to 5 pm.

The blackout in Machakos will affect areas such as Koma Hill, Mutalia, Kware, Malaa, Kantafu, Joska, Mitatini, and Katindangooni areas of Kangundo Road, Joska from 9 am to 5 pm.

Other areas that will be affected include parts of Machakos Town such as the Industrial Area, Muthini Estate, Civil Servant’s Estate, Bomani and adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.

Similarly, the blackout in Machakos will affect parts of Athi River including Nova Pioneer, Welding Alloys, Greatwall 3, 4 & 5, Kongoni Godowns, Riverpark Est, Paradise Park, Seyani Brothers, Swan Carriers & adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.

In Nyeri, the blackout will affect areas such as Blue Line, Kakuret. KWS Mt.Kenya, Kamburaini, Kiriakor, Soweto, Naromoru Girls, Judea, Meree, Lusoi, Warazo, Ndathi, Mapema, Munyu Aguthi, Gitinga, Gatunguru, Kihoya, Kiawambogo, Nyagathugu High Sch, Kianguru, Nyagatugu, Wanjerere, Kahari TBC, Kianguru TBC, Kagongo, Wanjerere Forest Station, Muthinga Mkt, Kanderendu, Eucabet Academy, Kangaita, Upper & Lower Gichira and adjacent customers.

Migori areas that will be affected include; Gogo Power Stn, Rapogi Center, Rapogi, Awira Akoko, Pinyo Owanjo, Osiri Matanda, Macalda, Muhurubay, Sori, Lwanda, God Gajora, Parts of Uriri, Patrs of Awendo, and Osiri Gold Min from 8 am to 2 pm.

Kenya Power also announced that the blackout in Embu will affect areas such as Kithimu Mkt, St. Teresa’s Kithimu, Kamuthatha, Ena Mkt, Ena C/Factory, Kivwe Mkt, St. Paul’s Kevote, Makengi Mkt, Kevote Mkt, Kirurumwe C/Factory, Ngai Ndethia C/Factory, Ena Safaricom Booster, Nembure, Kamunyori Farm, Kiangima Girls, and Ndatu Mkt from 9 am to 4 pm.

The blackout in Busia will affect places such as Nasira, Kajoro, Kololo Farm, Nambale DC, Lugulu Malanga, Lwanyange, Mabunge, Ikondohera, Kisoko, Namahindi, Mungatsi, Madende, Esidende, Luanikha, Igara, Musokoto, Benga, Kamolo, Sierra, Lupida, Kwangamor & adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.

In Kirinyaga, the blackout will affect areas such as Mururi Mkt, Kianjiru Mkt, Gacatha, Mkt, Part of Kutus Town, Governor’s Office, Kwa Kibera, Achievers Sch, Mutungara, Abel Nyamu, Chinese Site-Daraja ya Mungu, Kutus Municipality & adjacent customers from 9 am to 4 pm.

Places that will be affected in Kiambu include; Githingiri Est, Government View Est, Kari, Kalro, Thika Green Golf Club, Thika Green Phase 1, Phase 2 & Phase 3, Carton Manufactures, Memorial Hosp & adjacent customers.

Bomet areas that will be affected by the blackout include; Chesilyot, Kamirai Sec Sch and Mkt, Parts of Kaplong, Ajiwa, Brookside, Kapchepkoro, Siriat, Tumbelyon & adjacent customers.

The mentioned areas will go without electricity from 9 am to 4 pm.
