Nelson Koech: Ruto will win with more than 3 million votes

By , January 29, 2026

Belgut Member of ParliamentNelson Koech has said that President Ruto will win with more than 3 million votes in the next general election.

Speaking to a local TV station on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Koech said that Ruto is a brutal politician, and the only competition he has is his own manifesto. He has noted that the coalition between the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will form the most serious and formidable coalition. Koech has blasted the united opposition as having no serious candidate and for conducting indoor meetings.

“President Ruto was being minimalistic because, in my view, we are going to win the election with more than 3 million votes. He is a brutal politician, and the only competition he has is his own manifesto, because his competitors are busy in boardrooms,” Koech said.

UDA-ODM Pact

The lawmaker has indicated that the pact and discussions between the two parties were made when the former prime minister and the ODM party leader, the late Raila Odinga, was still alive.

Koech has noted that even though the UDA party has lost support in some of the regions that backed President Ruto in the 2022 general elections, the party has also built up new support bases in other regions. He has said that that is the nature of political alignments.

The legislator was referring to Ruto’s statement while speaking at State House during the UDA National Governing Council (NGC) meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, when he said that lessons from past political turbulence had informed the formation of the current broad-based government.

Ruto declared that he is targeting a landslide victory in the 2027 General Election, saying he wants to win by a margin of between two and three million votes.
