Ndung’u, Thugge to shed light on Worldcoin activities in the country

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and Central Bank of Kenya Governor Dr Kamau Thugge are today expected to appear before the Joint Ad hoc Parliamentary Committee to shed light on the controversial activities of the cryptocurrency project World Coin in the country.

Ndung’u and Thugge, are part of the witnesses and experts that the 17-member committee chaired by Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo has invited to unravel the nexus between cryptocurrency trading in Kenya and Worldcoin’s recent undertakings, particularly concerning the source of money paid to citizens subjected to iris scans.

 Others invited to appear include Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha who is expected to provide information on potential health hazards resulting from the reported irises scans, National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin, Office of the Attorney General, the Registrar of Companies, and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC).

Inaugural meeting

 “Our work is cut out and we shall be calling in a number of witnesses including experts to shed light on this matter,” said Tongoyo, during the committee’s inaugural meeting that had been called to agree on the Terms of Reference, as well as to determine potential experts and witnesses to appear before it.
