A line-up of events that will culminate in the mega Gen Z protests set for Wednesday next week has been unveiled.

According to a poster seen by People Daily, the protests that began this week on Monday are set to continue until Wednesday, June 25, 2025, when there will be nationwide prayers and celebrations at Uhuru Park to honour fallen and past heroes who lost their lives last year during the anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

On Friday, June 20, 2025, Muslims across the country will hold peaceful processions and demand justice through Friday prayers.

The protests will continue on Saturday, June 21, 2025, where Seventh Day faithful have been urged to use the Sabbath for outdoor sermons and peaceful protests against injustice.

“Churches must be reminded that God does not condone injustice or bad leadership,” reads the poster.

The protests will take a break on Monday, June 23, 2025, to prepare for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when there will be a vigil at Parliament, and politicians have been urged to stay away.

Bold slogans such as ‘Rage & Courage’ and ‘We Will Never Forget’ are featured prominently, with hashtags #Justice4OurMashujaa, #NeverForgetKE, and #FagiaWote used to rally support online.

A year on from landmark protests over taxes and corruption, Kenya’s youth have remained undeterred by a violent police response but face conflicting ideas on what direction to take.

On June 25, 2024, Kenyan youth, predominantly Gen Z, led massive protests against the controversial Finance Bill.

Coordinated via social media under the banners ‘Occupy Parliament’ and “RejectFinanceBill2024”, thousands of them breached security barriers, stormed the Parliament building, ransacked offices, set parts ablaze, and even occupied the Senate chamber.

Police responded with water cannons, teargas, rubber bullets—and, according to rights groups, live fire—resulting in the deaths of over a dozen protesters in Nairobi, with tens more injured and over a hundred arrested.

The June 25 uprising marked a watershed moment for Kenya, propelling youth and civic activism into national prominence and signalling a new era of political engagement.
