Trans Nzoia governor Natembeya mourns death of media personality Njambi Koikai

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has mourned the passing of the county’s endometriosis ambassador Jahmby Koikai.

Natembeya highlighted the strong working relationship between the county and Koikai, who was affectionately known as Faya Mummah.

Koikai was scheduled to visit the Governor’s office ahead of her show in Kitale to discuss further engagement.

“I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of the renowned radio personality and MC, Jahmby Koikai. I had the privilege of knowing Jahmby personally, and we maintained a strong working relationship between my administration and her brand,” Natembeya stated. 

Governor Natembeya expressed his sorrow, revealing that Koikai had recently shown signs of overcoming her condition but ultimately did not survive.

“Regrettably, I was informed that she was overcome by her condition, for which she was receiving treatment, and, tragically, she did not survive. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life and the indelible mark she left on us,” he added.

Natembeya praised Koikai’s legacy as a champion for endometriosis awareness.

“Her vibrant spirit and the joy she brought will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. Jahmby’s legacy as a champion for those she represented will continue to inspire and guide us. May she rest in peace, and may her light continue to shine on the path she paved for many,” he concluded.

Who is Koikai

Mary Njambi Koikai, known affectionately by her fans as Fyah Mummah Jahmby, was a beloved media personality and reggae music advocate.

Njambi’s passion for reggae and rasta culture shone through her work, notably as a host on Metro FM and QFM, where she gained a dedicated following.

She also performed with her band, Earthzone, and managed events through her company, Street Empire Entertainment.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including being fired from QFM, she continued to make her mark in the industry, even performing at the KICC in 2020 while battling severe health issues.

Her struggle with endometriosis began at the age of 13, leading to significant hardships, including painful cramps and educational interruptions.

Over the course of her life, she underwent 21 surgeries to manage the condition.

Koikai’s death

Koikai passed away at Nairobi Hospital, where she was receiving treatment in the ICU. Her death came days after she publicly appealed for blood donations through her Instagram stories.

She passed away at the age of 38.
