Police at Naroosura in Narok South Sub-County have arrested a 30-year-old woman who is alleged to have subjected her two daughters to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Speaking to KNA, the Narok County Children Officer Pilot Khaemba said the children aged 13 and 11 years were taken to Naroosura health centre where they were confirmed to have undergone FGM.

The mother of the minors, he said, is being held at Naroosura police station while the minors are under the care of the children’s office.

Kahemba said the arrest followed a tip off from the members of the public who informed the authority of the suspected incident of FGM in the homestead.

“The area chief Moses Tuarari led police officers to the home of Konene Rinka where they found the two minors recuperating after undergoing FGM on November 30,” he said.

The arrest comes a day after Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde warned chiefs who hide culprits of FGM that they risk losing their job.
