Narok County has joined the long list of counties hit by the ongoing drought

Close to 300,000 people are reportedly affected and living without food, including 130,000 pupils in primary schools and students in high schools.

The joint committee formed by Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and County Commissioner Isaac Masinde is to seek help from the National government, a non-governmental organization to step in and provide relief food and water, to cushion residents from the effects of the on-going drought.

Addressing the media after a consultative meeting at the county commissioner’s office, Ntutu and Masinde announced that they have already instructed the committee to write to deputy president Rigathi Gachagua office to appeal to the National Government for relief food.

Ntutu revealed that most parts of the county have been affected severely, following prolonged drought last year and failed short rains in April, with many residents now staring at starvation. He said many pastoralists had lost their animals due to lack of pasture and water and called on the government to intervene and assist through water trucking to avert a hunger crisis.
