Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika dismisses assault claims

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has denied claims that she was slapped by one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security men on Wednesday.

She instead said she pushed away from her aggressor during the opening of Ugatuzi Plaza at the county assembly officiated by Uhuru.

Kihika, who is also the Senate Chief Whip, took to her Facebook page to explain what transpired after a video clip showing what appeared to be a physical altercation emerged on social media. 

“In the last two days, there has been a lot of speculation, tales, falsehoods and half-truths about what actually happened. Let me take this opportunity to set the record straight once and for all,” she said.

Kihika explained that she had joined other leaders to receive Uhuru when a plain-clothed police officer confronted her.

“I was in the middle of the line, next to Woman Representative Liza Chelule and Assembly Deputy Speaker Joseph Tonui when one male security officer came directly to where I was standing and pushed me to get me out of the line,” she explained. 

The fiery legislator said that she was shocked at the conduct of the officer and “I quickly grabbed him and a tussle ensued as I told him off”.

Senator Kihika said that the matter was quickly resolved and the officer in question apologised.
