Nairobi’s coronavirus cases near 8,000 as total recoveries surpass 5000

Coronavirus cases in Kenya’s capital Nairobi are only 261 shy of the 8000 mark.
Sunday, the Health Ministry reported 603 new cases, 441 of which are in Nairobi. On July 19, the cases closed at 13,353.
Today we have recorded another high of 603 positive cases from a sample size of 5, 724 tested in the last 24 hours. We now have 13,353 confirmed positive cases, while our cumulative sample tested has risen to 243,887.#komeshacorona

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe emphasized the need for taking the precautionary measures.
“Today’s summary of COVID-19 situation in the country shows infection numbers are still rising. We continue to appeal to our people to carry on with the precautions and other containment measures we have shared with you seriously,” said CS Kagwe.
Meanwhile, recoveries surpassed 5000 after 682 more people recovered bringing the total recoveries to 5122.
The Ministry recorded higher recoveries against new infections, at 682 versus 603. Recoveries for home-based patients were 562, and hospitals 120.
Increasing infections
Almost two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the cessation of movement into and from Nairobi, Covid-19 cases have been increasing alarmingly.
For the last two days, daily cases have been surpassing the 600 mark with 688 on Saturday, and 603 on Sunday.
