Motorists who wish to use the Nairobi Expressway over the weekend have been advised to plan accordingly after the Moja Expressway Company announced that the road will be closed temporarily on Saturday and Sunday.

Through a statement shared via their official social media pages, the Chinese company announced that the changes are meant to pave way for the Nairobi City Marathon, an event organised by the Ministry of Sports in partnership with the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA), which will be held on July 2.

The road will be closed from Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 10:00 pm at night to Sunday, July 2, at 4:00 pm. Those affected could use alternative routes such as the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, Uhuru highway or the Waiyaki highway.

“Kindly note that the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed on Saturday 1st July 2023 at 10:00 pm to Sunday 2nd July 2023 at 4:00 pm to make way for the Nairobi City Marathon,” the statement reads in parts.

“We kindly request all motorists and commuters to plan their journeys accordingly,” the statement added.

The firm added: “We were unaware of a different run happening on the same day across the road. In the true spirit of charity and sportsmanship, we are therefore happy to leave the day for them and push ours forward to allow them to meet their planned charity and community objectives,”
