Recently-appointed Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura yesterday defended President William Ruto’s numerous trips abroad, arguing they will benefit the country in the future.

Speaking to journalists in Nairobi, Mwaura (pictured) said that the trips that had witnessed the President visit 40 countries were within his mandate as Head of State.

Mwaura, who was addressing his first press conference since assuming office, averred that the trips would bring investments and employment opportunities to Kenyans. He cited a number of bilateral agreements that President Ruto has had with the country’s trade partners, the latest being Saudi Arabia.

Opportunity creation

“Ruto’s international engagements have led to the creation of opportunities for Kenyans either within or outside Kenya, with a focus on boosting local production and prioritising the local market. The President’s focus on agriculture as a key part of his government’s agenda underscores his commitment to leveraging foreign trips for the benefit of Kenya,” he stated.

According to Mwaura, by Ruto engaging with other nations, he will secure investments and open up markets for Kenyan products. This aligns with his plans to lift visa requirements for all Africans by the end of 2023, demonstrating a broader vision for regional integration and economic cooperation.
