By Luke Oluoch, October 19, 2025Mwala Member of Parliament Vincent Musyoka Kawaya has lauded President William Ruto for his development agenda targeting the larger Ukambani region ahead of the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebration on Monday, October 20, 2025.
This year’s celebrations will be staged at the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County.
Speaking on Saturday, October 18, 2025, the MP hailed the president’s resolve to put the region on par through his development agenda.

Kawaya made the sentiments while flanked by a section of government-allied politicians at Maanzoni Lodge in Ukambani.
“As a Kamba nation, we say Ruto is our hero. Ukambani has been subjected to the politics of empty promises. Other presidents only made promises to us without delivering, but we now have road projects taking shape in Makueni, Kitui and other places,” he said.
“For now, we have a stadium in Kitui and an airstrip. We also have a State Lounge. All these will open up our areas and generate opportunities for livelihoods for our residents,” he stated.
His remarks come after the government confirmed that the national event will go on as planned, despite the recent development occasioned by Raila Odinga’s demise.

In a statement on Saturday, October 18, 2025, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed that the national celebration will proceed a day after the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is laid to rest in Bondo.
Mwaura detailed that Mashujaa Day remains a cornerstone of the country’s identity, where people will gather to celebrate and honour the sacrifices of those who built the nation.
”In the shadow of this loss, the Government affirms with unwavering resolve that Mashujaa Day, our sacred celebration of Kenya’s heroes, a constitutionally enshrined public holiday under the Public Holidays Act and aligned with Article 9(3) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), will PROCEED as planned on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County,” the statement read in part.
He also affirmed that the national celebration will honour Raila Odinga further, who will be buried on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
“The government calls upon all Kenyans to turn out in great numbers for Mashujaa Day 2025. Let us come together as one people to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Rt Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga and all our mashujaa.”
“Bring your voices and your stories in unity of resilience to weave a living tribute to a man who taught us to stand tall. On this day, let us not only mourn but rise in the spirit of harambee, honouring our fallen hero by recommitting to the dream of a stronger, united Kenya,” Mwaura concluded.
