Mutua, wife announce break-up but pledge to support each other

Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua and his wife Lillian Nganga have announced an end to their relationship.

Nganga was the first to announce the break-up on her Instagram page yesterday.

With the turn of events, Nganga said she has also stepped down as the Machakos First Lady but will continue doing her charitable projects through her foundation.

“With this, I put down the Machakos First Lad cap. What an honour it has been to be of service! I will continue to do projects close to my heart, charity work through the Lillian Nganga Foundation as this has always formed who I am as a person,” she said.

According to her, she decided to end her relationship with the Governor two months ago.

“The only constant in life is change and we must be present and aware to appreciate and embrace it. Winds of change blew my way two months ago. I decided to end my long term relationship with Dr Alfred Mutua.

We had a good run and I am forever grateful to God He brought us together, we remain friends… God’s plans are always for our good. Never doubt or question,” she added.

And in a rejoinder, the Governor said Nganga will be a close advisor as he governs Machakos and run for president, because he trusts her sharp insight and heart.

Describing her as an excellent First Lady, Mutua said that much as she will do some projects under the Lillian Nganga foundation, they have agreed to continue with her county projects.

According to Mutua, Nganga has been his number one fan and though their love for each other is permanent, space and new directions are important at times.

Blessed man

“There is a song by Roger Whittaker that has the line: ‘the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye.’

Lillian and I have been a blessing to each other,” Mutua said on his Instagram page, even as he attached a photo of them, clad in blue.

“Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are in amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly,” added Mutua.

County boss further said he is a happy and a blessed man that they have agreed to protect and support each other.

“I thank God for bringing Lillian into my life and the many ways we have made each other grow. We have had a laugh and at times a tear but all in all, we have been a power couple and very happy.

We celebrate life and are pleased that we have reached this decision in a mature and agreeable manner,” Mutua said.

Over the years, the two have shown public affection even defending each other from constant ridicule.

Before announcing her relationship with Nganga, Mutua was in a bitter battle over the custody of their three children with ex-wife, Josephine Thitu.

The two were fighting for custody of their children to which Mutua lost in 2014 and the court ordered him to pay the costs.
