Mutua, Sercombe stables dominate key races

Onesmus Mutua and Patsy Sercombe stables dominated the key races at Ngong Racecourse on Sunday.

The 2,800m Brigade of Guards Trophy was left to the biggest endurance force in a race that had two sides to it.

Notorious, Caen and Zodi West, all from the Mutua stable, swept the podium in the long distance meet.

Notorious, jockeyed by Muoki Kiilu, was not only fast but energetic as it started strongly and led from the first bend with impeccable control.

It was her 11th win in 23 starts this season and Kiilu’s growing chemistry with the mix breed was evident with the communication between them.

The distance between Notorious and second-placed Caen, ridden by Martin Micino, was a massive nine lengths at close and it proved just how classy the fillie has been so far.

Big running Caen had a good race but was just not up for the main challenge while third-paced Zodi West pushed the limits especially from the 1,200m mark but had to be content with his spot under the marshalling of Paul Kiarie.

The all Mutua stable race that was clocked at 3.13.2 seconds had Winter Comet withdrawn under veterinary orders while Supreme Rock, jockeyed by Robert Mbatha, was last on the finish line.
