Murkomen: We must deal with gangs firmly and decisively
By Joel Masibo, December 3, 2025Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has put organised gangs on notice, saying the government will deal with groups working with politicians to disrupt peace, putting the lives of other citizens at risk.
Speaking in a local TV interview on Tuesday night, December 2, 2025, Murkomen said it is worrying that politicians, both in government and the opposition, have developed a habit of working with goons to settle political scores.
Murkomen was speaking shortly after a teargas incident was witnessed at the Kariobangi North PCEA Church on Sunday, November 30, 2025, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was attending a thanksgiving service.

The particular gathering was organised to celebrate the victory of David Warui, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate who won the Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-election.
Aside from the Kariobangi North chaos, the November 27 by-elections recorded incidents of violence in most parts where the exercise was taking place.
Speaking on the same, Murkomen further acknowledged that there are instances where police officers are compromised and badly used by the politicians, after Gachagua claimed that the state had resorted to using goons to attack children and congregants on Sunday.
Police compromise
”There are instances where police officers are compromised and used by politicians, and we cannot deny that this is a problem. We must also acknowledge that some goons are being used to undermine law enforcement efforts,” Murkomen said.
The Interior CS said that it will not be business as usual for the politicians working in collaboration with goons, adding that the government will flush out the organised groups to curb future national security threats.

”We must deal with gangs firmly and decisively. We cannot protect or tolerate them simply because they are politically aligned or associated with those in government, because the same gangs can become lethal and uncontrollable in the future,” Murkomen said.
Gangs growth
”Their numbers have already grown to a level that poses a serious national security threat. At the same time, we must remember that police officers are human beings. They need protection, support, and an environment where they can serve the country without fear, compromise, or manipulation.” The Interior CS said.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service has confirmed that seven persons of interest linked to the Kariobangi North PCEA Church chaos have been apprehended.
