Murkomen slammed over admission that politicians hire goons to cause chaos
Women’s rights and constitutional lawyer Koki Muli has lashed out at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen following what she says is an admission before the Senate that some politicians hire goons to push their agendas by causing chaos in political rallies.
Muli described the revelation and termed this the collapse of accountability in key institutions within government.
Speaking in an interview on a local radio station on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Muli’s scathing critique has highlighted that there’s a danger of political interference in law enforcement.
“I was shocked when the minister of interior stood before the Senate and admitted that politicians are hiring goons. We know, but what are you doing about it? Because you are the minister of interior, you cannot stand and say, ‘Okay, they are hiring goons and starting to threaten people,'” Muli stated.

The human rights defender has further warned that the continued inaction by the Ministry of Interior threatens public safety and erodes trust in governance.
She has urged immediate reforms, insisting that citizens deserve better leaders and institutions that act decisively and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that no one, irrespective of political standing, is above the constitution and is held accountable.
Koki has further stated that in a case where public officers have been unable to perform their duties, they should step aside because politics should not be taken as a tool for inaction.
Murkomen addresses use of goons
Sentiments from the advocate have come hours after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen came out to defend the Kenya Kwanza regime amid reports of increased police brutality under their watch.

Speaking while attending a Senate session on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Murkomen cautioned politicians against politically agitating armed youths to create unrest or win sympathy by taking decisive measures against those people who instigate violence.
“Kitengela is facing a very serious challenge. It has been an issue for the last 15 or so years. It is a serious hotspot for criminal gangs that are actually utilised by politicians,” Murkomen noted.
