Murkomen reshuffles top ministry officials in security shake-up

By , July 26, 2025

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced major changes in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration in a move aimed at enhancing security and service delivery across the country.

Taking to his X account on Saturday, July 26, 2025, the changes, outlined in a posting order dated 25th July, 2025, include key appointments and redeployments of senior officials in internal security and administration.

According to the official release, Jacob Narengo Namulen has been appointed Principal Administrative Secretary, Internal Security, while Beverly K. Opwora will serve as Principal Administrative Secretary, National Administration. Other notable appointments include Thomas Saka as Secretary, Internal Security and Moses Kipkoech Lilian as Secretary, National Administration.

Further, Dickson Liyayi Magotsi takes over as Secretary, Policy and Liaison, while Gilbert Kitiyo and Joshua Nkanatha have been named Regional Commissioners for Nairobi and Central regions, respectively.

The deployment is “to take effect immediately,” and the changes are part of a broader effort “to enhance service delivery within the National Government Administration cadres,” the statement read.

Murkomen targets peace, stability

This comes as CS Murkomen continues to push for sustainable peace and economic development in troubled regions, particularly the restive Kerio Valley. Speaking recently in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet, the CS said the government was committed to restoring normalcy through multi-agency security operations and dialogue under the Jukwaa la Usalama initiative.

“We shall not rest until we achieve sustainable peace in the region,” Murkomen said, noting that operations like Maliza Uhalifu had already helped reopen schools, health centres, and markets.

He also offered scholarships and vocational training to bandits who surrendered illegal firearms.

“Instead of engaging in crime, we will give them scholarships to get skills that they can use to take care of their lives.”

With the fresh reshuffle, Murkomen is keen to align leadership within the ministry with the government’s security priorities.

“The deployment has been re-organised as follows to take effect immediately,” the notice signed by Murkomen stated
