Murkomen outlines govt’s plan to capture suspected Kware serial killer

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured the nation that necessary efforts are ongoing to apprehend and charge the Kware murder suspect who escaped from police custody.

Murkomen stated that, through forensic analysis, Collins Jumaisi Khalusa was positively identified as the prime suspect in the case.

He said the suspect had been arraigned at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makadara under Criminal Miscellaneous Application Number E861/2024 and detained for 30 days pending investigations, after which he was remanded at Gigiri Police Station.

“Through forensic analysis, Mr Collins Jumaisi Khalusa was positively identified as the prime suspect of the above-mentioned individuals. The suspect was arraigned at Chief Magistrate Court in Makadara under criminal miscellaneous applications number e861/2024 and detained for 30 days pending investigation. He was remanded at Gigiri police station,” Murkomen stated.

Murkomen noted that on August 20, 2024, the suspect escaped from custody and that a warrant of arrest was issued against him, which remains in force.

He said the Internal Affairs Unit launched an independent inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape and that the investigation is ongoing. According to Murkomen, multi-agency operations are in progress to trace and apprehend the suspect so that he can be charged in court.

Steps into the investigation

Murkomen further explained that, regarding the specific steps undertaken by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to progress the case or identify additional perpetrators, the DCI, in collaboration with other multi-agency teams, is actively working to trace and apprehend the suspect.

“Regarding the specific steps undertaken by the DCI to progress the case, locate the case or identify additional perpetrators, the DCI, in collaboration with other multi-agency teams, is actively working to trace and apprehend the suspect,” he added.

He encouraged members of the public to share any relevant information regarding the suspect with the DCI through the Fichua Kwa DCI number.

He also stated that so far over 5 bodies have been positively identified and released to their respective families
